Mueller Museum Donating Art to Decatur Area Arts Council for Fundraiser
The Hieronymus Mueller Museum is donating a selection of Jane Mueller’s private art collection to the Decatur Area Arts Council for an art exhibition and fundraiser April 1-23, 2022.
Jane Mueller was an instrumental founder of the Hieronymus Mueller Museum, and an avid fine art collector. When she passed in 2009, she bequeathed a portion of her private art collection to the Hieronymus Mueller Family Foundation. The art pieces that tell her personal and family story are kept by the museum and officially accessioned into the museum collection.
However, there are many other pieces that, while beautiful, do not fit within the mission and scope of the museum’s collection. The Foundation’s Board of Directors would rather see those art pieces enjoyed by others.
“To be very clear, the art that will be included in the fundraiser does not fit the mission and scope of the museum’s collection,” says Museum Director, Katherine Unruh. “These pieces were never accessioned into the collection. They were only temporarily housed in the museum until such an event could be planned befitting Jane’s memory. The Mueller Museum takes its commitment to preserving its collection very seriously, and we are confident Jane would endorse an event that brought this work out for viewing and will continue to support the arts in general.”
Because Jane was so fond of the arts, the Hieronymus Mueller Family Foundation felt it would be fitting that they help raise funds for the Decatur Area Arts Council.
The art will be on display in the Anne Llyod Gallery of the Decatur Area Arts Council from Friday, April 1 through Saturday, April 23, 2022. All pieces on display will be for sale, with all proceeds going to the Decatur Area Arts Council, a non-profit organization that promotes the arts and art education in Decatur, IL.
“We’re excited to be partnering with the Decatur Area Arts Council for this show,” says Unruh. “Stop by the Anne Lloyd Gallery to enjoy the art and perhaps find a piece or two to take home.”
